Several years back, Holland had abandoned a solemn pledge
and attended a rock show. The venue opener none other than the local band Marrow. At
the time, Holland was dating an Ashmond Community College colleague, a recent
divorcee, a full decade his junior, and she desired a willing co-pilot while living
life to the fullest (while her ex- lived, and she actually did say this, to the
dullest). Holland propped up the
pretense of enjoying every shindig, movie, poetry reading, and concert Anita
dragged him to, but both knew it was only a matter of time before the temporary
rebound built on a foundation of mutual professional bitterness and some surprisingly
strenuous middle-aged people sex came tumbling down.
