The futuristic astronaut - default smug faced, those white jammies
under the acting spotlight gone full deplorable exhibiting a desperate need for a high agitation wash or
a mercy donation - golf clapped.

Grimgrack
From today --
Where his gut had told him to go and where he hadn't
gone. You stop listening to your gut,
getting back in the swing of things proves a chore.
And you might pay a price, slow stepping. But he was taking steps and it
had felt good, rapidly scribbling down Gillespie's answers to his questions,
and he felt like a technology dynamo, propping his phone up between the dash
and the front window, putting it on speaker, asking her questions and listening
to her answers. Derek knew software
existed that would just record and transcribe every word anyone said, but he
couldn't imagine doing that. His old
man's brain had been warped by past procedures.
There wasn't time to learn how to be fast. Short term, he would abide the path worn down
by all those dinosaurs, all those skeletons littering the fourth estate. Long term, he'd familiarize his grey hairs
with the tech-dependent paths all the young Woodwards and Bernsteins tread.

From today --
Cudney wondered how many of the dressed up old white
people trudging out of the lobby en masse were ranchers, farmers, how many were
civil service, retirees. The women drove
his ick factor needle down into bedrock.
Dressed to the nines, advertising flat rear ends, gaseous bulbous
abdomens, dyed hair, raisin-wrinkled faces.
The drapes didn't match the carpets, not here.

"He said, Gerry said, as soon as he identified you to the audience, he said, 'Oh, look. Our pedophile viewership just
spiked!'" Holland's face was red. Not even red.
Going borscht. The last time
Satchel had seen the color was years ago during one of Helga's sorties through
the house, packing up for the move out to the San Juan Islands.

From today --
Back at Ashmond Elementary catchphrases went through the
normal life and death cycle. By the time
someone as out-of-the-know as Satchel heard the phrase it was a formerly bright
star now counted amongst the rubble of its kind.
Choice among the fallen: Fudge factory.
Ballnibbler. Bootie doctor. Isaac's sister.
